The Sculptures

Explore the captivating 17th-century sculptures once housed within St. Peter's Church.

A total of eight 17th-century wooden sculptures have been preserved from Siuntio church. The sculptures originate from an old altarpiece that disappeared in the 19th century. The altarpiece was most likely made in Germany or Baltic region during the latter half of the 15th century.

The sculptures are now located in the Finnish National Museum.

Medieval Altarpiece

In 1515, the council in Reval (now Tallinn) demanded that the painter Michels be paid for his claims on Sjundeå church. The source has been interpreted to mean that a master had ordered and delivered an altarpiece to the church, which had not been paid for. The location of the altarpiece is unknown.
