Sacred resting places: Exploring graves within St. Peter's Church

According to the customs of the time, people were also buried inside the church in Siuntio. However, it was expensive to purchase a burial plot under the church floor, and therefore not everyone could afford to be buried there. Common people were buried in the cemetery around the church.

The oldest grave in the church belongs to the Tott family, who owned Sjundby Manor. The grave was located in the choir, and the tombstone of that grave can still be seen in the floor. Other graves in the choir included the Suitia Manor's grave, Mörsbacka grave, Störsvik grave, and the clergy's grave.

There were also graves under the church's nave. For example, Myrans' grave was located there.

The practice of burying inside the church was discontinued after the episcopal visitation in 1807. At that time, the Sjundby grave was emptied and filled again. A copper coffin with the coats of arms of the Fleming and Creutz families was lifted from the grave. It was moved to Sjundby and reburied in the Sjundby garden.
